On Oct 31, the Ministry of Natural Resources said a 2024 nationwide
re-evaluation of co‑occurring and low‑grade strategic minerals found rhenium
resources have more than doubled, gold resources are equivalent to adding about
50 large deposits and nickel to about 30. The ministry said it mobilized teams
across 27 provinces, more than 100 units and nearly 2,000 surveyors to reassess
17 strategic minerals—including gallium, germanium, indium, chromite, nickel,
cobalt, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, tantalum, vanadium, rare earths, rhenium,
potash, gold, manganese and helium—completing re-evaluation at over 1,800
operating mines and medium‑to‑large mining districts and estimating the
quantities of co‑occurring and low‑grade resources technically and economically
recoverable under current conditions.
