Oct. 30-31, 2026 — China’s vice foreign minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the G20
foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta. Ma warned of deepening shifts in the
international landscape, heightened geopolitical tensions and a lagging
development agenda. He reiterated President Xi Jinping’s Global Security
Initiative—advocating a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable
security concept that favors dialogue over confrontation, partnerships over
alliances and win-win outcomes over zero-sum approaches—and said it has helped
defuse regional disputes. Ma urged the G20 to help maintain global peace and
stability, cool regional hotspots, address root causes of conflict and
strengthen global security governance. He emphasized energy as the lifeline of
economic and social development and said China supports G20 cooperation on
energy security and sustainable development, improving affordability,
accelerating energy-structure transition and enhancing international energy
governance.
