OpenAI on Sunday confirmed plans to brand its data centers as Compute Campus,
saying the name better reflects the scale and role of AI infrastructure and
signals long-term investment in compute, energy infrastructure and skilled
labor. Data centers have become a voter issue in the US midterm elections and
past attempts to improve public perception have largely failed; major builders
including Meta, Amazon and Microsoft have pledged millions to nearby communities
and schools, and OpenAI is pursuing a full rebrand to try to shift public
opinion.
