Japan finance minister Katayama said authorities are prepared to take measures
if the foreign-exchange market shows disorderly or excessively speculative
moves, and will act under existing Japan–US agreements, with frequent
coordination and consultations with US counterparts. The US holds midterm
elections on Tuesday; polls and prediction markets show Democrats may retake the
House while Senate control is uncertain. If Democrats win full congressional
control, they could constrain President Trump’s fiscal agenda, which could put
downward pressure on US Treasury yields and the dollar and support the yen.
