Indian finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will consider
adjusting stock-related taxes to shore up investor confidence amid a prolonged
market downturn. She acknowledged retail investors’ sensitivity and anxiety and
noted similar tax rates were applied during large capital inflows in 2023–24.
Speaking on Monday evening, Sitharaman said she will consider the views raised
but gave no specifics on whether capital gains tax or transaction taxes are
under review.
