Indonesia's energy and mineral resources minister said Jakarta will prioritise
domestic electricity demand over exports, adding Indonesia cannot export power
in the near term. He later qualified the comment, saying exports would be
possible only if prices meet Indonesia's requirements. The remarks cast doubt on
Singapore's plan to import renewable energy from Indonesia via a subsea cable.
Singapore relies largely on imported natural gas and has approved renewable
import deals with Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Indonesia's
position could also threaten wider Southeast Asian grid-development plans.
