Thailand is expected to approve on Tuesday a rise in the consumption tax on some
imported electric vehicles, part of measures to protect the domestic auto
manufacturing base and encourage local production. Government spokesman Ekapon
said the item is on the cabinet agenda chaired by Prime Minister Anutin. Thai
media report the finance ministry has proposed raising the tax on fully imported
whole‑vehicle EVs with no local parts from 10% to at least 30–40% (Bangkok
Business), while Daily News reports a proposed 30% rate; both outlets say the
new rate would take effect January 1.
