The dollar weakened as investors fretted over the outlook for AI investment and uncertainty ahead of Tuesday's US midterm elections. Apple (AAPL.O) warned Monday that operating costs for AI tools will squeeze margins, amplifying doubts about the sustainability of AI spending. AI model developer ANTHROPIC reported an operating loss in Q3 after a costly data-center deal, and rival OpenAI's latest funding round raised less than half of an initial $30 bln target. Higher oil prices, which tend to support the dollar, provided some offset after a US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island pushed crude up. The dollar index (DXY) fell 0.12% to 101.684; earlier Monday it touched 101.426, a one-month low.

World Gold Council (WGC) said on Tuesday high gold prices have suppressed jewelry sales and investment, and it expects India’s 2026 gold demand to fall to about 650 tonnes, the lowest since 2020. Sachin Jain, head of WGC India, said year-to-date gold jewelry demand has declined and will drag down annual demand. India’s Q3 gold demand fell 29% YoY to 162.5 tonnes; jewelry purchases were down 20% and investment demand down 40%. Seasonal buying around Diwali and the wedding season could support a fourth-quarter rebound.
