China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said on the 4th that autumn
grain sown area is expected to be steady to slightly higher and more than 90% of
the crop has been harvested, effectively confirming a bumper harvest. Beijing is
advancing a new round of measures to raise grain production capacity by 100 bln
jin, focusing on stabilizing sown area, raising per-unit yields and cutting
losses. Summer grain output reached 301.49 bln jin (about 150.7 mln tonnes), the
first time above 300 bln jin and a record high. Early rice output was 56.58 bln
jin (about 28.3 mln tonnes), remaining above 56 bln jin for six years. Full-year
grain production is likely to stay above 1.4 tln jin (about 700 mln tonnes) for
a third consecutive year.
