BeiChen Lin, senior investment strategist at Russell Investments, said U.S. October payrolls of 65,000 would still indicate a resilient U.S. labor market. The jobs report is due Friday; the 65,000 forecast is slightly above the Wall Street Journal survey median of 59,000. Lin said such an outcome would give the Federal Reserve more room to focus policy on its inflation objective. He added an ongoing energy shock is lifting inf, but wage growth remains relatively modest, and while job gains are broader across industries than in 2024, a handful of sectors continue to drive hiring.

Russell 2000 index rose 1%.
