At the open of China’s night futures session, main contracts were mixed: fuel oil fell more than 4%, low-sulfur fuel oil (LU) dropped over 3%, bitumen fell >2%, and propylene and styrene (EB) fell nearly 2%. On the upside, Shanghai silver rallied over 4%, Shanghai gold rose more than 2%, and Shanghai nickel, stainless steel (SS) and coking coal were each up over 1%.

On Nov. 3, as U.S. midterm voting continued, Trump said if Democrats make gains and win control of Congress he may use presidential vetoes to force bipartisan deals, saying "historically, you only need to veto for a few months and then they come to you and say, 'We have to make a deal.'" He added that if Democrats try to curb his powers in Congress he could further expand use of executive authority. The remarks suggest White House–Congress confrontation could intensify if Democrats win majorities in both chambers. Trump also said he has campaigned for Republican candidates nationwide in recent weeks and believes his efforts helped blunt a potential Democratic "blue wave."
