Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has urged EU leaders to decide who should
represent the bloc in any Russia-Ukraine negotiations and to define that
representative's mandate, saying the current array of different negotiators
undermines EU credibility. In a letter to European Council president Antonio
Costa, shared by her office, Meloni asked EU27 leaders to discuss the issue at
next week's informal summit in Dublin and to aim for a decision at the December
leaders' meeting. She said she is not seeking a formal Italian negotiating seat
but warned that without a single, authorised EU interlocutor the bloc risks
losing influence in the talks.
