FT reports that after Iran warned it could target undersea cables and data
centers if the US and Israel launch new strikes, maritime analytics firm
Windward tracked at least four Iran-linked vessels using unusual routes and
loitering along undersea cable corridors in the Gulf of Oman over several days.
Three of the vessels are US‑sanctioned tankers and the fourth is a small Iranian
fishing boat that lingered above the Europe–India Gateway and Transworld cables
from Oct. 21–26. TeleGeography shows six cables currently cross the Strait of
Hormuz and three more are under construction; Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar
rely entirely on cables traversing the Strait, so strikes could materially
disrupt regional internet connectivity and economic activity.
