FAO's Cereal Price Index averaged 116.8 in October, down 5.5 points (4.5%) from
September and 13.1 points (12.6%) below October 2025. World wheat prices fell
after four months of gains, driven by weak international demand and improved
output prospects, notably in Argentina; expectations of eased Black Sea export
constraints added downside, though ongoing Black Sea logistics disruptions
limited the decline. International corn prices retreated from a three‑year high
in September amid U.S. harvest pressure, anticipated ample supplies from major
South American exporters, and renewed prospects of Black Sea easing. Barley and
sorghum tracked wheat and corn lower, with a favourable Australian crop further
depressing barley. By contrast, the FAO Rice Price Index rose 1.6% in October
2026 as delayed harvests in some exporters, adverse weather and rising costs
supported prices.
