A 46-year-old Greek national, Ioannis Aidinidis, pleaded not guilty on Friday in
a London court to charges under the UK National Security Act alleging he was
directed by a foreign intelligence service to surveil a journalist at
London-based broadcaster Iran International. Aidinidis, born in Georgia and
living in Munich at the time of his arrest, was charged in May and remains
remanded in custody; his trial is scheduled for May next year. Prosecutors say
he travelled to the UK twice in April and May to monitor the journalist; police
say they believe he acted on instructions from Iran. Tehran has repeatedly
denied involvement in attacks or plots on UK soil.
