ECB President Lagarde said euro-area headline inflation was 4% in October, above expectations a few months ago but in line with market pricing. Core inflation excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco remained 2.5%, unchanged from September; services inflation edged up to 3.3% but stayed within its four-month range. On Nov 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said the Koalicja multinational exercises due to start in Poland on Nov 9 — timed on the eve of Abu Dhabi three-way talks between Russia, the US and Ukraine — indicate European states have nothing to do at the negotiating table. She said Western countries remain unwilling to address Russian security concerns and are provoking escalation.
