President Trump ordered the Department of Justice to immediately investigate
what he called Democratic threats to use impeachment and imprisonment as
political weapons, accusing Democrats of targeting the attorney general and
other officials and of threatening criminal penalties against Republican donors
and supporters despite, he said, lacking grounds. Trump singled out Michigan
Democrat Elissa Slotkin as an example of a lawmaker who has threatened to
prosecute young people for espousing Republican views and urged Republicans to
respond quickly.
