Oakland police are investigating the disappearance of NVIDIA AI chips and
computer hardware valued at $11.4m (≈¥76.1m). A truck carrying the cargo left
Oakland on Aug. 29 for Fort Worth; pickup paperwork matched the plan but the
vehicle lost contact and the owner filed a police report on Sept. 13. Police
tracking shows multiple prolonged stops en route and the truck was last tracked
in San Bernardino County; no suspects have been arrested. Analysts say such
chips can fetch nearly twice U.S. prices abroad, so authorities have not ruled
out transshipment overseas. This is not the first reported NVIDIA cargo theft;
experts say the scale and sophistication point to growing professionalization of
high‑value tech cargo theft and rising transport security risk.
