Donald Trump said he wants to “take the oil in Iran” and suggested the US could
seize Kharg Island, the country’s main export hub, as thousands of troops deploy
to the region. He compared the approach to US plans in Venezuela and said,
“Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t.” Nearly all Iranian oil exports
pass through the island. Trump added that indirect talks with Iran via Pakistani
intermediaries are “progressing well,” while setting an April 6 deadline for a
deal or potential strikes.
