China is accelerating construction of a major Yangtze River high-speed rail corridor, a flagship project under the 15th Five-Year Plan, according to CCTV. The line will run from Shanghai to Chengdu, spanning about 2,000 km and linking three major city clusters. The project involves underwater tunneling beneath the Yangtze River, including work at depths of 89 meters using large-diameter tunnel boring machines. Total investment exceeds 500 billion yuan, and it is estimated to drive nearly 1.5 trillion yuan in upstream and downstream industry value, spanning heavy equipment manufacturing, steel, and precast concrete production, CCTV reported.
