Donald Trump signed a proclamation strengthening tariffs on imported steel,
aluminum and copper, introducing tiered rates under Section 232. Products made
largely of these metals face 50% tariffs, derivatives 25%, and select industrial
equipment 15% through 2027. Goods made with U.S. metals abroad will pay 10%,
while items with minimal metal content are exempt.
The White House said the move addresses national security risks and supports
domestic production, citing rising U.S. steel output and ongoing investments in
steel, aluminum and copper capacity.
