US oil executives are lobbying Donald Trump to oppose any deal allowing Iran to
impose tolls on the Strait of Hormuz, warning it would set a dangerous precedent
for global shipping. Industry leaders and the American Petroleum Institute say
reopening the waterway, which handles about a fifth of global oil and LNG flows,
is critical. They argue Iranian control would disrupt markets, raise costs and
embolden other states, while some call for joint international action to secure
the route.
