European Council President António Costa said EU leaders are preparing for
possible negotiations with Vladimir Putin as frustration grows over stalled
US-led efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Costa said Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports EU readiness to contribute to negotiations, though
there is no indication Moscow is prepared to engage with the bloc. The EU is
seeking a coordinated approach while avoiding disruption to President Donald
Trump’s diplomatic process. Zelenskyy also said Ukrainian officials are meeting
US envoys to revive talks that have stalled since Trump launched military action
against Iran.
