A Chinese-owned oil tanker was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, marking the first reported strike on a Chinese tanker since the US-Iran conflict began. Chinese media said the vessel was marked “CHINA OWNER & CREW,” and the attack caused a fire on the ship’s deck. The condition of the crew was not immediately clear. Chinese outlet Caixin cited a person familiar with the matter saying it was the first such incident involving a Chinese oil tanker. China remains a major buyer of Iranian oil despite US blockade measures in the Gulf of Oman.
