Chinese President Xi Jinping said China is committed to the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China–U.S. relations, after holding talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on May 14 during a state visit, according to Xinhua. Xi said he and Trump agreed to define bilateral ties as a “constructive strategic stable relationship,” which would serve as strategic guidance for China–U.S. relations over the next three years and beyond, and would be welcomed by both peoples and the international community. He added that such “constructive strategic stability” should be cooperation-led, competitively bounded, differences controllable, and peace-sustaining, stressing that the framework is not a slogan but requires concrete, reciprocal actions.
