China’s urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 5.3% in the first four months
of 2026, the National Bureau of Statistics said. In April, the rate stood at
5.2%, down 0.2 percentage point from March.
Local household-registered unemployment was 5.3%, while migrant workers’ rate
was 5.0%, including 5.0% for rural migrant workers. The jobless rate in 31 major
cities was 5.2%, down 0.1 percentage point from the prior month. Average weekly
working hours for employed workers stood at 48.0 hours.
