President Donald Trump will swear in Kevin Warsh as Federal Reserve chair during
a White House ceremony on Friday, according to a White House official. Warsh
will become the Fed’s 17th chair, succeeding Jerome Powell, who has remained in
a temporary capacity after his leadership term expired last week. The Senate
confirmed Warsh earlier this month in a 54-45 vote, the narrowest margin for a
Fed chair confirmation. Warsh takes office as the Iran war adds inflation
pressures and amid scrutiny over whether he will remain independent from the
White House after Trump publicly called for lower interest rates.
