UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government will extend the freeze on
fuel duty for the rest of the year, cancelling a planned 5p increase scheduled
for September. “We are backing drivers by extending the freeze in fuel duty for
the rest of the year,” Starmer told MPs. He added: “We’re now extending the
freeze because of events in the Middle East.” The decision maintains the current
fuel duty level amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets and
household cost pressures.
