The 134.2-km Pinglu Canal, the first river-to-sea grand canal built since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, has been constructed to Class I inland waterway standards and will accommodate 5,000-ton vessels. Today (May 28), excavation of the canal’s main navigation channel was completed, laying a solid foundation for the Pinglu Canal’s planned completion and opening to navigation in September.
