US Vice President Vance said on Thursday the US and Iran have not reached an
agreement but are close, and that the US currently has the ability to
significantly delay Iran’s nuclear program. Earlier reports said Washington and
Tehran had agreed to extend a ceasefire and lift Strait of Hormuz shipping
restrictions, subject to President Trump’s approval. Vance said key sticking
points include Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and enrichment activity; he
warned it is difficult to say when or if a memorandum of understanding will be
signed, that wording remains under negotiation, and he could not guarantee a
deal though he felt fairly optimistic.
