China’s Shanxi province formally began its flood season at 08:00 today, the
provincial water resources department said. Forecasts place Shanxi within the
northern rainy zone this year, with overall climate anomalies, more frequent
extreme weather and elevated disaster risk. Provincial seasonal rainfall is
expected slightly above normal, with flood risk exceeding drought and
alternating wet‑dry conditions. Significant floods are possible on the Fen and
Qin rivers in the Yellow River midstream and on the Sanggan, Hutuo and Zhang
rivers in the Hai River basin; localized severe flooding may occur.
