On the evening of June 1 local time, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
(IRGC) said its naval forces fired a cruise missile at the vessel Sariska, which
it described as linked to US and Israeli interests, saying the strike was
retaliation for what it called an aggressive US attack on Iranian ships in the
Gulf of Oman. The IRGC said it would respond firmly to any US military
aggression and did not give a specific time for the action. Separately, UK
Maritime Trade Operations said a merchant ship in the Persian Gulf near southern
Iraq was struck by an unidentified projectile and suffered a large explosion.
