On June 2 the European Parliament’s international trade committee voted to approve the US-EU trade agreement. The accord was first announced in July 2025 by US President Trump and European Commission President Von der Leyen; its ratification was delayed for months after tensions following US demands for Denmark’s autonomous territory Greenland and a US Supreme Court ruling that large-scale US tariff policy was unlawful. The European Parliament backed conditional implementation on March 26 and EU member states accepted the parliament’s recommendations in May.

On the evening of June 1 local time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu held a phone call with U.S. President Trump to discuss developments in Iran and Lebanon. The call followed Israeli forces crossing the Litani River to launch an offensive, effectively collapsing a temporary ceasefire that began April 17. On May 31 Netanyahu ordered an expansion of military operations in Lebanon and has sought U.S. support for strikes on Beirut and other targets, a request he has communicated to Washington.
