On the morning of June 3, the Madao and Qishi hubs began filling, marking full-line impoundment of the Pinglu Canal and the start of wet commissioning. The canal, the first state-coordinated river-to-sea canal since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, will accommodate 5,000-ton vessels and is scheduled to open to navigation in September.
