China Vice President Han Zheng met in Beijing with Michelle Bachelet, a
candidate for the next UN secretary-general. Han said China will continue to
support the UN’s core role, push for a fairer global governance system and, as a
Security Council permanent member, fulfil its responsibilities, defend UN
authority and safeguard Global South interests. Bachelet praised China’s
commitment to multilateralism, backed balanced progress on the UN’s peace,
development and human-rights pillars and member-state leadership, and said she
supports UN reform to improve effectiveness and will work with China to
strengthen the organization.
