Uber (UBER.N) imposed internal limits on employee AI use to curb escalating AI
spending, capping AI call costs at $1,500 per employee per code-oriented AI tool
per month (examples: Anthropic’s ClaudeCode, Cursor). Employees can track
consumption on an internal dashboard; exceptions require approval. The measure
follows prior internal encouragement of heavy AI use and an internal
leaderboard; Uber’s CTO said in April the company exhausted its annual AI budget
within four months.
