China's embassy in Wellington said on June 4 it will bar entry and impose other
measures on a small group of New Zealand MPs who visited Taiwan despite repeated
warnings, saying their meetings with local politicians violated the One China
principle. The embassy said the MPs' actions, publicized in local media,
amounted to interference in China's internal affairs and fall under relevant PRC
laws. Beijing reiterated it opposes visits to Taiwan by foreign legislators and
that similar cases will not be exempt from consequences.
