On the 4th, US President Trump said he would not rule out meeting Iran’s new
Supreme Leader if the US and Iran ultimately reach an agreement. He reiterated
the US will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and said prior strikes
on Iranian nuclear sites had "completely destroyed" the related facilities.
Trump added the US considered sending troops into Iranian nuclear sites to
remove enriched uranium but abandoned the plan to avoid prolonged ground
operations and casualties, saying such an operation would take one to two weeks,
require heavy equipment and airlift capacity, and carry high risk.
