Mainland bank stocks were among the strongest performers, with Bank of China up 6.45% and ZTE rising 4.51%. SMIC slid 7.18%; Lanqi Technology (06809.HK) tumbled 9.16%. Non-ferrous/metals names weakened in the afternoon.

The U.S. House on Thursday passed a bipartisan bill providing new aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia, contrary to Trump administration policy. The measure passed 226-195; 18 Republicans voted in favor and all but one Democrat supported it. The bill moves to the Senate, where Republican opposition makes passage more difficult. Even if approved by the Senate, it would require Trump’s signature to become law.
