Retired U.S. general Mark Kimmitt said reciprocal strikes and tough rhetoric
between Washington and Tehran may not have derailed negotiations. "I don't think
rhetoric has much to do with whether diplomacy succeeds," he said, adding Iran
has sought to delay reaching an agreement. "That said, I believe what President
Trump said — things are getting closer," Kimmitt added, noting Iran's pattern of
delaying, rearguing and requesting more time. He said an agreement is unlikely
in the next few days and that it will take time, urging patience from both
governments.
