June 10 — Colombian President Gustavo Petro denied reports he had been temporarily suspended, saying a single lawmaker had filed a request with the House Committee on Investigations and Accusations but that the committee has no authority to suspend the president. Speaking in New York at a UN Security Council meeting, Petro said any suspension would require Senate action, warned the move may breach Colombian law and could be taken to the Supreme Court, and accused the initiating lawmaker of making demands to the government amounting to extortion.
