The subpoenas were issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, led by Jeanine Pirro, and mark an escalation of a Trump-led probe into whether banks discriminated against conservatives and politically sensitive industries, including businesses linked to the Trump family. Trump has alleged JPMorgan and Bank of America closed his accounts after the Jan. 6 events; in August he signed an executive order directing bank regulators to investigate politically motivated de-banking and consider penalties.

China A-shares closed lower after a weak session. Shanghai Composite fell 0.16%, Shenzhen Composite fell 0.68% and the ChiNext Index slid 1.13%. Helium-related names rallied, with Huate Gas, Heyuan Gas and Kaimete Gas among several stocks hitting daily limit-ups. Semiconductor materials outperformed: Jiangfeng Electronics, Xingfu Electronics and Asichuang hit 20% limit-ups. Turnover across Shanghai and Shenzhen totaled 2.55 trillion yuan, down about 67.2 billion yuan from Tuesday; roughly 1,400 stocks rose and about 4,100 fell.
