Under guidance from the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), major websites
and platforms have jointly issued the Convention on Remediating
Enterprise-Related Infringing Information and Optimizing the Business Network
Environment. The convention requires platforms to promptly remove information
that infringes entrepreneurs’ personal rights, proactively delete verified false
enterprise-related information, tighten management of enterprise-related topics
and rankings, and continuously adjust recommendation algorithms to prevent
algorithmic promotion of negative enterprise content. It mandates strict
controls on illegal profiteering, revocation of monetization rights for accounts
that repeatedly publish negative enterprise content, and tougher sanctions and
account-handling measures. CAC said the measure aims to strengthen industry
self-discipline and governance, protect enterprises’ and entrepreneurs’ online
lawful rights, and that it will step up guidance and supervision to ensure
implementation.
