On June 12 Iranian foreign minister Araghchi told Iranian media a memorandum the US and Iran may sign within days would pledge both sides to respect sovereignty and refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs. Araghchi said the text is the first time in 47 years the United States has explicitly acknowledged respect for Iranian sovereignty in writing. He warned US threats would be counterproductive and said Iran is prepared for either a settlement or war.
