The US government issued an export-control order under national security authority requiring immediate suspension of any foreign-person access to Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5, regardless of physical location, including foreign Anthropic employees, Anthropic said. The company said it received the order at 5:21pm ET and must disable customer access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 immediately; access to all other Anthropic models remains unaffected. Anthropic said the government’s letter gave no written details and has only provided oral evidence alleging a potential narrow, non-general jailbreak method — essentially prompting the model to read a specific codebase and fix software defects. Anthropic said it will comply with the legal order but disputes that a narrow potential jailbreak justifies recalling models already deployed to hundreds of millions of users.
