China has launched its first national-level AI pilot testbed for the
metallurgical sector in Nanjing, Jiangsu, to support transformation of the steel
industry. The National AI-Enabled Steel Industry Application Pilot Base will act
as a nationwide industry innovation and shared-application platform, focusing on
high-quality industry datasets, proof-of-concept and pilot systems, AI toolkits
and industry-scale models. The base is intended to tackle common barriers to
deep AI adoption in steel by improving data quality, cutting model-training
costs, scaling pilot trials and scenario validation, and lowering application
thresholds.
