At his first press conference since March, Prime Minister Netanyahu, referring
to a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, said Iran will never possess nuclear
weapons “with or without this agreement” and vowed “as long as I remain prime
minister this will absolutely not happen.” He said Israeli forces will remain in
south Lebanon, parts of Syria and the Gaza Strip “as long as security needs”
require, maintaining a so-called “security zone.” Netanyahu said Israel will
continue targeted removal of regional security threats, pursue new strategic
alliances inside and outside the region, secure autonomous weapons supply and
develop advanced technologies. He said he and U.S. President Trump “often agree
but sometimes disagree.” Netanyahu confirmed he will run in the upcoming Israeli
election and intends to win.
