Ratcliffe was not the only skeptic: Secretary of State Rubio and Defense Secretary Hegseth privately raised concerns, while Vice President Pence and envoys Witkoff and Kushner supported the agreement. Ahead of a Sunday announcement, senior officials reviewed intelligence showing discrepancies between Iranian internal discussions and their statements to mediators and the US, leading Ratcliffe and Rubio to conclude Iran probably would not accept the US’s demanded nuclear measures.

Mainland A-shares closed mixed after intraday swings. Shanghai Composite fell 0.11%, Shenzhen Composite rose 0.93%, ChiNext gained 1.72% and the Beijing Stock Exchange 50 added 1.03%. Turnover across Shanghai and Shenzhen was CNY3.06 tln, up CNY33.5 bln from the previous session. Battery-related sectors led gains: EVE Energy and Lead Intelligent each climbed over 13%, and Fengyuan Gufen hit the daily limit. Airport and airline-related stocks underperformed, led by Xiamen Airport, Spring Airlines and Juneyao Air.
