June 17 — Sources close to BMW said rumors that the automaker will halt July production of China-made BEVs including the i3, i5 and iX1 reflect a routine capacity adjustment tied to market timing and product cycles, not an exit from the Chinese BEV market. Insiders said the adjustment is intended to concentrate capacity and resources to prepare localized production of BMW’s next-generation models, which will include upgrades across vehicle technology, intelligent cockpits, autonomous-driving features and user experience to match China’s NEV consumption upgrade. Sources said the change will not affect after-sales, maintenance or existing owner rights.
