On June 18 DeepSeek rolled out a web-based image-recognition mode; its mobile
app remains in internal testing. The feature is at an early stage: repeated
tests with photos of founder Liang Wenfeng produced multiple wrong IDs and the
model ultimately said, I’m really not sure. I don’t recommend guessing names,
because guessing wrong is worse than saying I don’t know. In other user trials
the model misidentified Liang as Moonshot AI founder Yang Zhilin and as a
younger Ma Huateng. The launch follows reports DeepSeek has secured more than
CNY50 billion in its initial funding round. Reported deal terms include a
founder stipulation that investors must not poach DeepSeek staff or encourage
them to spin out; DeepSeek insiders said that description is broadly accurate.
